Pregnancy is a journey, but sometimes it comes with extra twists and turns. If you've been labeled "high-risk"—whether due to age, diabetes, hypertension, or past complications—it can be scary.

I want to reassure you: "High risk" implies you need more care, not that something bad will happen.

Conditions I Manage

• Gestational Diabetes (GDM): Review of glucose results, nutrition, monitoring, medicines when prescribed, and fetal wellbeing. Read the gestational diabetes care guide.

• Previous pregnancy loss or complications: Review of prior records and discussion of which investigations or monitoring may be appropriate.
• Pregnancy after 35: Individual risk review, prenatal screening discussion, and monitoring based on your health and pregnancy history.

Normal Delivery Support

A vaginal delivery may still be possible in some high-risk pregnancies. The delivery plan is individualized and may change if clinical findings show that another approach is safer.

What to bring to a high-risk pregnancy consultation

• antenatal records, scan reports, blood and urine results;
• a current list of medicines, supplements, allergies, and home blood-pressure or glucose readings;
• records from previous pregnancies, deliveries, miscarriages, or hospital admissions; and
• questions about monitoring, warning symptoms, delivery planning, and when hospital-based care may be needed.

When to seek urgent assessment

Contact your maternity team or seek urgent hospital assessment for severe headache, vision changes, chest pain, difficulty breathing, heavy bleeding, seizures, severe abdominal pain, reduced fetal movement, or any symptom your treating team has told you to monitor.
