First Trimester Care: Minimal Medicine, Maximum Reassurance
Navigating the first 12 weeks of pregnancy with expert guidance. Debunking myths about supplements and scans.
The moment you see those two pink lines, panic often sets in. Google will tell you everything is dangerous. My job is to tell you what actually matters.

Supplements: Less is More
In Bangalore, I see patients coming in with bags full of supplements. In reality, for the first 12 weeks, most women only need:
- Folic Acid: Crucial for the baby's spine.
- A Balanced Diet: Real food is better than any pill.
- Progesterone (Only if needed): I do not prescribe hormonal support unless there is a history of bleeding or miscarriage.
Scans: The "Dating" Scan
We typically do one scan around 7-8 weeks to hear the heartbeat and confirm the dates. You do not need a scan every routine visit unless there is a specific concern. Excess medicalization creates stress, and a happy mother is the best incubator.
Common Symptoms
- Nausea: It's normal. Small, frequent meals help.
- Fatigue: Your body is growing a human. Listen to it and rest.
- Cramping: Mild stretching pains are normal.
